Timesheet template: printable weekly and two-week

The short answer

A timesheet records each day’s start time, end time, breaks and total hours, with the employee’s name, the week and signatures. Add your details below, choose one or two weeks, then print copies or save the PDF. It’s free, with no sign-up. To add up hours you’ve already got, including decimal hours and overtime, use the time card calculator.

For crews who work away from a computer. Print a stack, or save the PDF and fill it in on a phone.

How it works

Filling it in

  1. Write the start and end time each day, as it happens rather than at the end of the week.
  2. Write the unpaid break in minutes.
  3. Add up each day, then the week. The time card calculator does this for you, in decimal hours as well.
  4. Sign it, and have a supervisor sign it.

Keep them

The Department of Labor (opens in a new tab) says to keep time cards for at least two years, and payroll records for at least three. Your state may ask for longer.

Hours over 40 in a workweek? See the overtime calculator, since each workweek stands on its own.

Common questions

What should a timesheet include?
The employee’s name, the week, each day’s start and end times, unpaid breaks, the day’s hours, the week’s total and signatures.
How do I fill out a timesheet?
Write your start and end time for each day, take off any unpaid break and write the hours. Add them up at the end of the week, then sign it.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25, 30 is 0.5 and 45 is 0.75, so 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75.
Is there a timesheet template in Excel?
This one isn’t a spreadsheet: it prints from your browser, or saves as a PDF, with nothing to install. Choose Excel if you want hours to add up in one file over time.
How long should I keep timesheets?
At least two years under the federal rules, according to the Department of Labor, and your state may require longer.
Is this template free?
Yes. No sign-up and no watermark. It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is stored or sent to us. Print it or save it as a PDF before you close the page.
