Workiz Genius Answering alternatives, and what it takes to run
The short answer
Workiz doesn’t publish a price for its job software or for Genius Answering, so any figure you see elsewhere is someone else’s estimate. What it does publish: plans are annual contracts even if you pay monthly, and Genius Answering needs a Genius Phone plan. You keep Workiz either way. Other options: AnswerConnect with people, Rosie and Upfirst with software, and CoveDesk, run for you.
Workiz is job software, and Genius Answering is an add-on that lets software answer inside it. You keep Workiz whichever way you go; this page is only about the phones. Since Workiz publishes no price, what follows is what its own terms and help pages say you’re signing up for.
Updated November 3, 2026. CoveDesk is one of the services on this page; other companies’ prices and features are from their own websites, linked below.
Workiz alternatives, by what you need
- AnswerConnect: People around the clock, and Workiz appears on its integrations page. It doesn’t label which links are native, so ask how the details get into Workiz. From $350/month: 200 minutes, as published.
- Rosie: Software you set up yourself, with a help article on Workiz among its connections. Ask what it writes back: notes, clients or jobs. From $49/month: 250 minutes, as published.
- CoveDesk (that’s us): if you want calls picked up, missed callers texted, and your Google profile and website looked after, all set up and run for you. Not live receptionists. Front Desk is $249/mo with 250 minutes. Free 14-day pilot.
- Upfirst: Software on forwarded calls, all or just missed or after hours, so your number can stay where it is. Workiz isn’t named on its integrations list. From $24.95/month: 30 calls, as published.
- Smith.ai: Billed per call with people, software or both, and no annual term to weigh up. Workiz isn’t named on the pages we read. From $0/month: 25 calls answered by software, as published.
- Goodcall: Software with a month-to-month term and billing by unique customers. It doesn’t name Workiz, but reaches other tools through Zapier. From $79/month: 100 unique customers, as published.
Workiz doesn’t publish full prices

Workiz shows no dollar amounts for its plans or add-ons, only a request form. The one figure on its pricing page is that annual billing saves $400 or more. Monthly numbers for Genius Answering or the base software that you’ll see elsewhere come from other companies and are estimates, so get a quote that covers the plan, Genius Phone and Genius Answering together. It offers a 7-day trial with no card.

Stay with Workiz if
- You want jobs on your schedule without a callback. It books, reschedules or cancels in Workiz, and scheduling directly on technicians’ calendars won’t double-book, per its FAQ. CoveDesk takes the details for you to call back.
- You don’t want to train anything. It learns your services and settings from your Workiz account. Our team would need that from you.
- You get Spanish calls. English and Spanish are both offered, and CoveDesk has no Spanish yet.
- You’re already on Genius Phone. The number and the plan are in place, and adding it to a call flow is a small step on its feature page.
- Your team takes transfers in the day. Calls can go live to your team in business hours. CoveDesk puts urgent calls through to the owner.
What has to be in place before Genius Answering picks up?
Its feature page calls setup a matter of a few clicks, and for someone already set up on Workiz phones it may be. Here’s the full chain from its help pages and terms, in the order you’d hit it.
- A Workiz plan on an annual contract. The first term is 12 months.
- A Genius Phone plan. Its FAQ says this is required.
- Your number in Workiz. To answer on your existing number you port it in, assign it to a call flow, then add Genius Answering to that flow.
- Something to pay for the conversations. A Genius Answering plan, or on-demand usage from a balance. Its FAQ says plans are the cheaper way, with no figures.
- Online booking settings. These decide when it thinks you’re available and whether jobs land on technicians’ calendars or stay unassigned. Allowing unassigned jobs is where double booking can come in.
A call counts as a conversation at 20 seconds, so ask how many conversations a plan includes and what happens to the call past that. Ask too whether the quote includes all of the above.
Can you use CoveDesk with Workiz?
Yes, as separate tools. Workiz keeps your jobs and invoices, your calls forward to CoveDesk, and details come to you by text. No connection exists between them yet, so nothing shows up in Workiz until someone enters it. One thing to check first: if your number already lives in Workiz, ask Workiz how to send those calls on, since its pages we read don’t walk through that. If your number is still with your own carrier, you forward from there.
Why owners look past Workiz
- You sign for a year. All Workiz plans are annual contracts, and renewal is another 12 months unless you give notice 30 days before the term ends. Paying monthly doesn’t change that.
- It stacks up. You’d need a Workiz plan, a Genius Phone plan, and either a Genius Answering plan or on-demand usage, and none has a public price.
- Using your own number means moving it. Its FAQ says your number has to be ported into Workiz.
- Past your limit, calls can fall to voicemail. Over your monthly conversations it stops answering and passes the call to the next step in your call flow, unless on-demand usage covers it.
Where CoveDesk is different
- Your number stays put. CoveDesk works by forwarding, so nothing has to be ported anywhere to start.
- Month to month. Front Desk has no annual contract, and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. There’s no free trial, where Workiz gives you 7 days.
- The price is public. You can see CoveDesk’s prices without a quote or a demo.
- What you give up. It won’t book or reschedule, won’t put anything into Workiz, and has no Spanish. If you want the whole job flow inside Workiz, this isn’t that.
Switching from Workiz
- Notice. Unless your sales order says otherwise, the first term is 12 months and it renews for another 12. Written notice has to arrive at least 30 days before the term ends. Source: Workiz’s terms (opens in a new tab)
- How to cancel. Email cancel@workiz.com. It takes effect at the end of the term, prepaid fees aren’t refunded, what’s owed for the original term stays due, and you can’t end it with a balance unpaid. Source: Workiz’s terms (opens in a new tab)
- Numbers keep billing. Cancelling a phone plan doesn’t release your numbers, on purpose, so they stay billed until you remove them. Its reason is that a released number could go back to the public pool. The pages we read don’t describe porting one out, so ask before you remove anything. Source: Workiz’s terms (opens in a new tab)
- Your records. Access ends when the agreement does, and Workiz may then delete your content, so download what you need first. Source: Workiz’s terms (opens in a new tab)
- While you’re in. Downgrades are for monthly billing only, upgrades are generally final, and unless you’ve agreed otherwise it can raise fees up to 10% on each anniversary with 30 days’ written notice. Source: Workiz’s terms (opens in a new tab)
Before you cancel anything, forward your calls to the new service and make three test calls of your own: a new customer, an urgent problem and a wrong number.
How we checked this
We make CoveDesk, so we’re not neutral, and this page isn’t a review. Everything about Workiz comes from its own website, read on November 3, 2026, with the pages linked below. We haven’t bought its service, and we don’t quote ratings or anyone’s opinion as fact. Where we couldn’t find a fact, we say so instead of guessing, and “not mentioned” means not on the pages we read, which isn’t a search of its whole site.
