Carpet cleaning pricing calculator: per room or per square foot

The short answer

Divide the carpet’s area by what you clean in an hour, then add drive time, solution, overhead and profit. Thumbtack’s national figures show a typical job at $147 to $288, about $0.53 to $0.98 a square foot, and national average prices of $130 for one room, $196 for three and $279 for five.

Room pricing is simple to sell but rooms vary. Check what your per-room price works out to per foot and per hour.

Common questions

How much should I charge per room for carpet cleaning?
Divide your job price by the rooms. Thumbtack’s national averages run from $130 for one room to $342 for six, so each extra room adds less than the first.
How much is carpet cleaning per square foot?
Thumbtack lists $0.53 to $0.98 a square foot.
Should I set a minimum?
Yes, because you still have to drive out and set up for one room. Thumbtack’s page notes minimums such as two rooms or a set dollar amount.
Does steam cost more than dry cleaning?
Not much on Thumbtack’s figures: $137 to $248 for steam against $133 to $242 for dry.
