Business days calculator, with invoice due dates

The short answer

Business days are Monday to Friday, leaving out holidays. To count them, start the day after your start date and skip weekends and holidays: 10 business days is usually two calendar weeks, or longer if a holiday falls between. Net 30 terms are different, because they count calendar days. Enter a date below to get the exact answer.

Find the date a number of business days from today, skipping weekends and US federal holidays. Count the days between two dates, and get net 15, 30, 45 and 60 due dates for an invoice.

In Excel or Google Sheets

Use =NETWORKDAYS(start, end, holidays) to count business days between two dates, including both. Use =WORKDAY(start, days, holidays) to find the date a number of business days away.

Using the calculator

  1. Enter a start date and how many business days to count. The start date itself doesn’t count, so one business day from a Monday is Tuesday.
  2. Choose later or earlier, and whether to skip US federal holidays.
  3. Add an end date to count the business days between two dates.
  4. Enter an invoice date to see net 15, 30, 45 and 60 due dates.

Federal holidays are the 11 in US law, on the day they’re observed (US Office of Personnel Management). Banks and your business may close on others, so check anything with a hard deadline. Put the due date on your invoice.

Common questions

What counts as a business day?
Usually Monday to Friday, not counting public holidays. A contract can define it differently, so go by the contract’s wording if there is one.
What’s 10 business days from today?
Usually two weeks from today, or later if a holiday falls in between. The calculator opens on today’s date with 10 days filled in.
Is 10 business days 2 weeks?
Yes, 10 business days is exactly two calendar weeks when no holiday falls in between. Each holiday adds a day.
How long is 7 to 10 business days?
About 9 to 14 calendar days, depending on the day you start, and longer if a holiday falls in between.
How many days are 4 business days?
4 to 6 calendar days. Starting on a Monday, it’s that Friday. Starting any later in the week, it crosses a weekend, so it’s 6.
Does the start date count?
Not here, and usually not in practice: the count starts the next business day. If your contract counts the first day, take one off.
What does net 30 mean?
Payment is due 30 calendar days after the invoice date, weekends included. An invoice dated June 1 is due July 1.
What if an invoice is due on a weekend?
Many businesses treat the next business day as the due date, and the calculator shows it. Say so in your payment terms if you want it to be the rule.
