AnswerHero alternatives and pricing
The short answer
AnswerHero’s live plans start at $39 a month for 10 minutes and reach $499 for 500, with a $19 software-only plan and hybrid from $90. Its terms ask for 30 days’ written notice to cancel and leave call rounding to its discretion. Alternatives include PATLive, MAP Communications and Ruby for live answering, Smith.ai for per-call pricing, and CoveDesk, a voice assistant run for you.
AnswerHero sells the same answering three ways: live agents, software, or both on one plan. Its small live plans are low-priced to start, and the things to read closely are how it rounds calls, how hybrid minutes work, and the notice it wants when you leave. Here’s what its own pages say, the side-by-side with CoveDesk, and who else to look at.
Updated November 3, 2026. CoveDesk is one of the services on this page; other companies’ prices and features are from their own websites, linked below.
AnswerHero alternatives, by what you need
- PATLive: A 14-day free trial, where AnswerHero’s pages mention none, and after-call notes and wrap-up aren’t billed. From $49/month: no minutes included, as published.
- MAP Communications: Live minutes with a free 7-day trial, so you can hear it on your own calls before paying. From $49/month: no minutes included, as published.
- CoveDesk (that’s us): if you want calls picked up, missed callers texted, and your Google profile and website looked after, all set up and run for you. Not live receptionists. Front Desk is $249/mo with 250 minutes. Free 14-day pilot.
- Smith.ai: The same live, software or mixed choice, but charged per call, so the rounding question goes away. From $0/month: 25 calls answered by software, as published.
- Moneypenny: Also people or software, with English and Spanish receptionists around the clock on its people plans. From $165/month: 50 minutes with a person answering, as published.
- Ruby: Live receptionists only, with a written refund window for first-time users, if a guarantee matters more than the entry price. From $250/month: 50 receptionist minutes, as published.
- Dialzara: Software only, with included minutes stated on every plan, which AnswerHero’s software plan leaves out. From $29/month: 60 minutes, as published.

Hybrid plans cost $11 a month more than the matching live plan ($90 for 50 minutes, $160 for 100, $290 for 250), and its page doesn’t make clear whether their minutes cover software, people or both. Stay with AnswerHero if
- You take very few calls and want people. Economy is $39 for 10 live minutes, and small plans go up from there. CoveDesk doesn’t offer live receptionists.
- Your callers speak Spanish. It says every agent is bilingual on every plan. CoveDesk has no Spanish yet.
- You want a choice of who answers. You can pick live, software or hybrid from one company, and its site says you can switch between them. CoveDesk is one thing: a trained voice assistant.
- Your job software should get the call. Its list includes Jobber, ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro, and agents can schedule for you. CoveDesk takes details for a callback and has no job software connection yet.
Can AnswerHero move you up a plan without asking?
Yes. Its terms allow it to charge you for the next plan up, with no advance notice, if your usage passes your current plan. Here’s the gap against paying for the extra minutes at its listed rates:
- 60 minutes on Starter. $79 plus 10 extra minutes at $1.89 is $97.90. Popular is $149.
- 120 minutes on Popular. $149 plus 20 extra minutes at $1.59 is $180.80. Pro is $279.
- 300 minutes on Pro. $279 plus 50 extra minutes at $1.35 is $346.50. Business is $499.
At list prices, the next plan only pays for itself past 30 minutes on Economy, 87 on Starter, 181 on Popular and 412 on Pro. Ask what usage sets off an upgrade, and get the answer in writing.
What the same month costs
Worked out from each company’s published list prices: the cheapest plan or plan plus extras that covers the month, lowest first at 250 minutes. For companies that bill by the call we count one call as 2.5 minutes, which is the ratio PATLive’s own pages use. These are our sums, not quotes, and they leave out tax and one-time fees.

Why owners look past AnswerHero
- Rounding isn’t pinned down. The pricing page says the nearest quarter minute, the homepage says the nearest 6 seconds, and its terms leave increments to its full discretion. On a month of short calls that gap matters.
- It can upgrade you without asking. Its terms allow a charge for the next plan up, with no advance notice, if your usage passes your plan. Unused minutes don’t carry over.
- The $19 plan has no minute count. It lists $0.79 for each added minute, but not what’s included, so you can’t total a month on it from the page.
- Hybrid minutes are unclear. The page doesn’t say whether a plan’s included minutes cover software, people or both. Hybrid Starter also lists the same $1.89 extra rate for each, unlike the plans above it.
- No trial or guarantee is mentioned. If you want to test before committing, MAP, PATLive and Posh each publish a free trial.
Where CoveDesk is different
- One way of counting. CoveDesk adds seconds over the month and rounds once. There’s no quarter-minute question on each call.
- A team runs it. We set up the voice assistant and keep it running, in your business’s name. Month to month on Front Desk, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- It reaches beyond calls. Missed-call texts are part of Front Desk, and your Google profile and website can be looked after too, which AnswerHero’s site doesn’t mention.
- What you give up. No person on the call and no way to add one, a short notice for callers at the start, and no appointment booked on the spot.
Switching from AnswerHero
- Notice. Cancelling takes 30 days’ written notice to its Customer Care address, or 60 days if your account runs above 2,000 minutes a month. Miss it and its terms renew you for another month. Source: AnswerHero’s terms (opens in a new tab)
- Final bill. Any overage is due right away when you cancel, and the month’s base rate isn’t refunded or prorated. Source: AnswerHero’s terms (opens in a new tab)
- Your number. Numbers AnswerHero provides stay its property when service ends. If you forward your own number, as its pricing page describes, you don’t change phone companies. Source: AnswerHero’s terms (opens in a new tab)
- Save your records. Its terms say client data is discarded immediately after you close the account, and otherwise destroyed within 90 days. Export what you need first. Source: AnswerHero’s terms (opens in a new tab)
Before you cancel anything, forward your calls to the new service and make three test calls of your own: a new customer, an urgent problem and a wrong number.
How we checked this
We make CoveDesk, so we’re not neutral, and this page isn’t a review. Everything about AnswerHero comes from its own website, read on November 3, 2026, with the pages linked below. We haven’t bought its service, and we don’t quote ratings or anyone’s opinion as fact. Where we couldn’t find a fact, we say so instead of guessing, and “not mentioned” means not on the pages we read, which isn’t a search of its whole site.
