Lawn care contract template: mowing and landscaping maintenance

The short answer

A lawn care contract says which services you’ll do, how often, what it costs, what happens in bad weather and how either side can cancel. Edit the visits and wording below, set your prices and season dates, and print it or save the PDF for both of you to sign. It doesn’t renew on its own, and it isn’t legal advice.

Turn a season of lawn care into steady, signed work. Every word is yours to change.

What’s covered

Mow, trim edges and blow clippings off hard surfaces on the schedule above, weather permitting. Spring and fall cleanups clear beds and lawn of leaves and light debris. If a visit is rained out, we'll come on the next workable day.

What’s not covered

Tree work, fertilizer and weed control unless listed above, irrigation repairs, storm cleanup, and damage from hidden objects the customer didn't mark. We'll quote extra work first. Lawn treatments may need a state license, so list them only if you hold one. This agreement isn't a warranty or insurance.

What the customer gets for signing up

Priority scheduling ahead of non-agreement customers, and we'll remind you when your next visit is due.

Payment

Customer pays the total above when this agreement is signed. Repairs outside this agreement are quoted and approved before we do them.

How long it lasts

This agreement runs from the start date to the end date above. It renews only if we both agree in writing.

Cancelling

Either of us can cancel with 30 days' written notice. We'll refund the unused part of the price, less any visits already made at our regular rate.

Access and safety

Customer gives us safe access to the equipment on the agreed visit dates. If a visit has to be moved, either of us will give as much notice as we can.

How it works

What to settle before you sign

  • Frequency: weekly, every other week or as needed
  • Rain days: when you’ll come instead
  • What’s extra: fertilizer, weed control, storm cleanup
  • Payment: per visit or a flat monthly price
  • Cancelling: how much notice, and what happens to anything prepaid

Applying fertilizer or weed control can require a state license, so check before you add it. For help with the price, use the lawn care pricing calculator. This template is a starting point, so ask an attorney if a contract is large or if you’re not sure.

Common questions

What should a lawn care contract include?
The services and how often, the season dates, price and payment, what’s not included, what happens in bad weather and how to cancel, with signatures from both of you.
Should a lawn care contract renew automatically?
This one doesn’t, since some states have rules for agreements that do. Send a new one each season: it’s also a good time to adjust your price.
Is a contract needed for lawn care?
Not always, but it sets expectations and gives you steadier income. It’s especially useful for commercial customers and for anything prepaid.
Can I use this for commercial properties?
Yes, as a starting point. Commercial customers may ask for insurance certificates and their own terms.
Is this template free?
Yes. No sign-up and no watermark. It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is stored or sent to us. Print it or save it as a PDF before you close the page.
